The Moonbounce is a timeless children’s favorite. For some reason, jumping up and down and out-of-control on a big and safe balloon can entertain children for hours. Whether you call these big blow-uppy things a moonbounce, bounce house, bouncer, moonwalk, space walk, bouncey castle, or Astro Jump, the only thing that cannot be argued is that children from all over the globe love to jump on moonbounces.
The exact word given to a “moonbounce” changes depending on where you live in the country. I haven’t done any research since owning a moonbounce and inflatable party rental company on other names these fun party favorites might have, but I am willing to guess that many more exist. One of the original people to rent the first “moonwalk,” as they were first known in California, was Sloat Van Winkle, the President of Astro Jump’s national entity.
Astro Jump was founded in 1986 by two 24-year old college pals on Coronado Island near San Diego, California. From a single inflatable stored in a beach shack, the company has grown to a nationwide chain of independently-owned locations throughout the US. With 35 locations nationwide, Astro Jump has become known as the industry leader in inflatable party rentals. Our slogan, “The Easiest Party Ever” sums up our corporate mission – to provide the best built, bounciest and best looking inflatables available in a simple-to-book package. The phenomenal growth of the parent company is a testament to the success of its approach.
Astro Jump of Metropolitan DC was founded in 1998 by Graham Cabell. Starting with six pieces of equipment, the business initially operated out of Mr. Cabell’s garage in Fairfax, VA. The business prospered, outgrew the garage, and was soon moved to a 2,000 square foot warehouse facility. By 2006, Astro Jump of Metro DC had acquired over 200 pieces of equipment and had become the DC Metro area’s first choice for quality inflatables. In late 2006 Tom and Michelle Phillips purchased Astro Jump of Metro Dc from Mr. Cabell and focused their efforts on growing the company further. When they sold the business to me, George C. Williams, in 2011, they had expanded the inventory further and become the undisputed area leader in water slide rentals.
Today Astro Jump is thriving because of the great efforts taken by the previous company owners, past employees, and current employees to provide helpful party planning advice and the best inflatable rental equipment to our customers. Everyone on the Astro Jump team takes pride in the daily work we perform for our customers. Our staff is routinely complimented by our customers and are some of the best in the business.
