Properly Rolling a Moonbounce

Properly Rolling a Moonbounce

December 5, 2013

How do you take a gigantic moonbounce and shrink it down to a manageable size for transport? You roll it. For those of us who work in the moonbounce and party rental business, there is an element of pride in every moonbounce roll. If a moonbounce, waterslide or other inflatable is not rolled correctly it makes it extremely challenging to move and transport it. This is why when you see Astro Jump’s team picking up your moonbounce after the party is over, they have a specific number of steps they go through to ensure it is properly rolled.

It is difficult to generalize on how to roll all inflatables, but the basic idea is to start by making it like a square or rectangle. This is accomplished by taking the sides and folding them over to achieve one of these two shapes. While this can be easier to do with square or rectangle jumps like the standard Theme Jump or Extra Large Fun House, which are already shaped like this, it poses challenges when rolling the more awkwardly shaped inflatables likes the Monster Wave Waterslide Rental. First, however, before any folding is done the moonbounce must be fully deflated. Rolling a moonbounce or waterslide with air still in it makes it nearly impossible and almost always leads to a terrible roll (if you can even roll it).

Once the inflatable has fully deflated and you have it in a box-like shape, the key is to fold the sides over to make it a long and thin rectangle. At this point the bottom of the bounce house should be the only part showing. It is important to fold in the inside of the moonbounce in order to protect it from damage and dirt during transport.

After you have the moonbounce in the long and rectangular shape, you can start rolling from the end without the blower tubes. This is important so that as you roll any remaining air can escape the bounce. This step is usually the hardest part and especially challenging when the inflatable has stairs like all waterslides, inflatable slides, and moonbounce combo rentals have. It is very important when rolling the moonbounce that you make the roll as tight as possible. A tight roll makes the finished product smaller and easier to transport. If you think that it could be tighter, it is usually best to unroll it and start over.

After the roll has been completed make sure to tie off the moonbounce with a strap to prevent it from unrolling.

As I stated earlier, rolling and then transporting a moonbounce can be an especially difficult job. This is why it is so important that we are aware of any hills, stairs or other obstacles that might be an issue at your party’s location. While Astro Jump does offer Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland customers the opportunity to pick up their moonbounce rental for a discount from the normal price, it is important to consider these rolling tips beforehand. This is not an easy job and not suited for everyone.

Fortunately for you, Astro Jump offers free delivery and set up of all of our inflatables in our DC, Maryland, and Virginia territories. This is a huge delivery area and probably your best option the next time you decide to rent a moonbounce.

Your children’s safety is our # 1 priority and Astro Jump® has always taken extra steps to provide the cleanest equipment for your celebrations. In addition to our usual warehouse equipment scrubbing, we are disinfecting upon delivery and again at pick-up to protect your family and our wonderful employees.
