Moonbounces, waterslides and other inflatables are generally durable pieces of equipment. There are, however, a few things that pose serious danger to the health of all of them. In this blog post we will explore some of these dangers so that you can make sure at your next moonbounce party our equipment is treated with the respect it deserves. We will also review some pre-party planning steps that you should take to ensure a successful party. Lastly, we will review every moonbounce’s number one enemy, the wind, to make sure you are prepared to keep your guests safe in the event of high winds.
Silly string –
Silly string can turn a brand new beautiful moonbounce into a toxic eyesore in no time at all. The chemicals inside the popular party favor are toxic to vinyl and especially the color within the vinyl. If silly string is sprayed onto a moon bounce or waterslide it will leave a black mark wherever the string lands. This can turn a beautiful and colorful inflatable into something less attractive. At the top of our rental agreement it states in bold letters NO SILLY STRING so that we can continue to bring you the nicest inflatables in the Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC area. If you use silly string at your party make sure it does not go near the inflatable or we will be forced to charge you for the damage to the piece, which much of the time means a new inflatable. I know that neither of us want this to happen. NO SILLY STRING!
All modern day inflatables are made from fire retardant vinyl. This is a somewhat modern change to the industry and it prevents the whole moonbounce or waterslide from going up in flames if a fire breaks out close to it. Remember, vinyl is a bi-product of petroleum. Even so, if a flame is lit next to vinyl it can burn holes in it and therefore destroy the equipment. Many moonbounce parties take place in the summer and are accompanied by tons of delicious grilled food. If you plan on grilling it is important that you disclose this to our driver so that they can set up the moonbounce a safe distance away from the grill. The other time of the year when fire becomes a threat is on the Fourth of July when fireworks are often used. To protect the moonbounce or waterslide and to ensure that your party doesn’t end in flames with a big bill, make sure all fireworks are launched far away from any inflatable.
Most people are not criminals or violent people in general, so this might go without saying, but if you cut our inflatable equipment with any sharp devices or seek to destroy it in any way, you will be responsible for the damages. Astro Jump and moonbounce parties are all about fun, so let’s always make sure we keep it that way 🙂
High Winds –
Wind is the greatest threat to any safe and successful moonbounce party. Astro Jump anchors all of our equipment according to industry standards for safety. This standard states that when wind gusts are in excess of 25 mph it is not safe to leave a moonbounce or other inflatables inflated. It states this on our rental agreement that you sign and we do all in our power to make sure that you abide by this rule. This rule is in place to make sure no one gets injured at your party. It is possible that when winds or wind gusts exceed this speed that the inflatable can actually take off. No, it would not be fun like a hot air balloon, it would be very dangerous. Our concern here is first and foremost the safety of all those enjoying our inflatables. Please be smart and when you think the winds exceed the 25 mph threshold deflate the bounce house until the winds have subsided. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
Sharp surfaces –
It is important that before we get to your location to deliver your rental equipment that you make sure no sharp objects are on or around the surface where you intend for the moonbounce or other inflatable to sit. Moonbounces cannot be placed on top of sharp gravel or next to tree limbs that may interfere with the bounce. In these situations we will not be able to leave the bounce house unless a more appropriate spot can be found. We want your party to be the easiest one you’ve ever had, so please check for these potential problems beforehand to ensure your party goes as planned.
