Inflatable Waterslides and Grass Yards

July 16, 2013

All summer long Astro Jump of Metro DC delivers moonbounces, moonbounce combos and other fun inflatables to our customers throughout Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC. While we do this all year long for parties in both warm and cold weather, each season comes with its own set of challenges and potential problems for set up and customer service. During the summer months most customers will rent inflatable water slides from us. One of the questions that come up with many waterslide rentals is the damage it may cause to someone’s yard.

We have all been in yards before when they have been swamped because of excess rain, a sprinkler left on or some other reason. We also all know that when this happens it can take a while for the yard to drain and return to its previously healthy state. Walking on the yard during this fragile state can damage the grass and in some cases make an otherwise beautiful yard a gross mud pit.

All of Astro Jump’s waterslides have self contained water mechanisms that keep them wet. This means that while water is constantly flowing at some point on the slide, it all ends up in the pool at the end rather than your yard. Furthermore, the water that flows down the waterslide itself is designed to only trickle and keep the slide wet. This means that it is not designed to constantly overflow the pool and your yard but rather to keep the slide wet and the pool full. Despite the clever designs, however, as people slide into the pool, water does splash over the edges of the pool and into the yard. How wet your yard will get during the rental depends on how long the waterslide rental is and how large the people are splashing into the pool. The best way to make sure your yard stays in tip-top condition is to make sure the children don’t play around the slide in the wet grass. Astro Jump can sometimes also bring a tarp if you do not have one to place under the wettest parts of the water slide. The tarp will protect the yard 100% during use of the waterslide but can get slippery after its wet so you’ll want to be careful.

The wettest yards get from inflatable water slides typically happens when we come back to pick up the slide. At this point we must drain the pool which sends a lot of water into the yard surrounding the pool. As long as people stay off the grass after we leave and let the yard dry out it will typically return to normal within a day or so.

We do not receive a lot of feedback from customers who are unhappy because their yard is soaking wet from a waterslide rental. Most feedback we receive is from happy customers either telling us they want the same waterslide rental next year or might even try the next size up. Astro Jump of Metro DC has the largest selection of inflatable waterslide rentals in DC, VA and MD for all ages and we encourage you to give us a call the next time you are looking for a fun way to cool down on a hot DC summer day. Add a refreshing sno cone machine or frozen drink machine and make it a true party!
