Hurricane Sandy Inflatable Advisory

As I report, Hurricane Sandy is storming up the east coast and threatening to cause substantial damage to Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. While many forecasters are projecting that it will actually hit north of the DC region in New Jersey, they are also advising all of us here in the DC region to prepare for the storm.

In the moonbounce industry we obviously never like to see storms like this coming. Wind and rain are never good for a party. When an inflatable is involved this is even more true, especially because of the wind. We never like to take the lead in cancelling a party at Astro Jump, but in certain situations, it is our responsibility for the safety of our customers and staff. For those days when the weather is not ideal, but the threat of inclement weather conditions remain, it is our job to educate our customers as to the safe operating procedures for the inflatable. Here is our policy

Whenever a moonbounce, waterslide or any other inflatable is involved in a party, if winds meet or exceed 25 mph the inflatable should be taken down. Despite that fact that we at Astro Jump use at the minimum 18 inch hooked stakes to anchor our inflatables, winds over 25 mph make the operating conditions unsafe for inflatables. We tell each of our customers on delivery that this rule must be followed and leave with them our rental agreement which also illustrates the rule. Regardless of how much fun you or your children are having on the inflatable, if the winds meet or exceed 25 mph you should stop using the piece immediately and deflate it until the weather conditions improve.

Moonbounces, waterslides, obstacle courses, inflatable slides and moonbounce combos are all safe and enjoyable when used properly. From Astro Jump we ask that you put safety first!
