How to Move a Moonbounce

How to Move a Moonbounce

October 4, 2013

Moonbounces are heavy! Depending on which inflatable we are speaking of, they range from about 150 lbs for the smallest mini-castle moonbounce to over 600 lbs for something like the Cars Dual Lane Slide. If it rains on an event and the bounce houses get wet, they can double in weight. If one is not careful while moving inflatables this heavy, it is easy to get hurt. Typically injuries from moving moonbounces come in the form of a pulled back. The most physically demanding parts of preparing everything for your parties is the loading of equipment, the unloading and setup of the equipment, and the eventual pick up.

Depending on the size of the moonbounce we will either send one or two drivers to deliver it and pick it up. One of the most challenging parts of preparation for parties and the eventual pick up of the bounce house is hoisting them onto the truck. It is during this step when most back injuries can occur. Astro Jump’s trained team works hard each week to ensure that all of our equipment is loaded properly before and after parties. Our strong team of workers is the best in the business and we are fortunate to have such a reliable and polite field team.

Once we have arrived at your party’s location and unloaded the moon bounce from the truck, the next most challenging part can getting it to the spot you prefer. We use hand trucks for transporting the inflatable from our truck to your desired setup location. If we only have to pull the bounce house over pavement or other hard and flat surfaces it can be easy. The challenges occur when we either need to transport equipment up hills or across wet grass. This is why when we book your party we try to determine what the drop-off scene will look like before your party’s date. If we arrive at your house and there is a hill we were unaware of, it is possible, if the hill is large and moonbounce is large, that we will not be able to deliver your equipment. When we know about a hill beforehand we will usually send two drivers if the bounce house is one of the heavier ones, so please tell us!

The other great challenge when delivering a moonbounce or especially an inflatable water slide is when the ground is wet from either rain or even an overactive sprinkler. In this case, the hand truck can sink into the grass making it nearly impossible to move with a heavy moon bounce on it. If we are able to move it through your wet yard in these circumstances, it is likely that there will be hand truck tire marks in your yard. We don’t like wet yards and you shouldn’t either for this reason. When we are draining and removing an inflatable waterslide from your yard, we do our best to drain the waterslide away from the path we will have to use to transport it back to the truck.

As you can see, the size of moonbounces and all inflatables can be prohibitive. It is for this reason that we hire strong people to deliver and care for our equipment and why we need so many details from you before the party. It is also for this reason that we suggest not buying a moonbounce yourself unless you are prepared to move it correctly to avoid injury and roll it correctly to save space. If we can help you in the future with your next moonbounce rental please let us know and we would be happy to help.
