Snow Storms and Moonbounces Don’t Mix

January 25, 2016

Snow and moonbounces don’t mix well. Blizzards and moonbounces, really don’t mix well! Just this past weekend the Washington DC, Maryland (MD), and Northern Virginia (NOVA) regions were pounded with over two feet of snow in a blizzard of historic proportions. Roads, public transportation, and airports were closed, but not Astro Jump! Well, not exactly. We did have a few rentals, but all were scheduled for indoor parties. Those parties that were scheduled for outside obviously needed to find another indoor moonbounce alternative, postpone their party, or cancel altogether. For those parties that moved indoors, we delivered the inflatables the morning before the storm and are picking them up now (a few days after). Having a moonbounce rental in a snow storm is a bad idea for a few obvious reasons.

1) Most bounce houses and moonbounce combos have a roof over top of them. While the heights of the roofs vary depending on the inflatable, they tend to range between 8 and 18 feet high. This roof in sunny weather keeps the sun off the kids inside and keeps the inflatable enclosed. In a snow storm the roof would act as a cache for the snow. As the snow continued to fall the weight on top of the bounce house would continue to increase. When the weight on top hit a certain point the top of the bounce house would cave in making it unuseable. Bottom line, it’s not safe to bounce in a moonbounce outside during a snowstorm.

2) Even if there is no roof on a moonbounce or other inflatable, we still do not suggest using one in a snow storm. While nothing will collapse overhead then from the weight of the snow, it will certainly be slippery inside!

3) You and all of your kids will probably catch a cold!

Now that we’ve gone over the obvious reasons not to have a moonbounce outside during a snowstorm, let’s discuss what you can do as long as you plan accordingly. Astro Jump of Metro DC has a variety of different indoor moonbounces, moonbounces combos and obstacle course rentals that can work indoors. Checking your available space is the first place to start. Especially with bringing a moonbounce inside, you need to be positive that you have accurate measurements. For example, if you tell us that you have “about” 8 feet of height clearance and it turns out you only have 7.5 feet, this can prevent us from being able to setup your inflatable. Our long term customers will always tell you how important measuring your space is for any party, but for indoor parties it is even more important. If you have limited space, we also have a huge variety of different carnival and package games that are popular attractions at carnivals and/or birthday parties.

As we all dig out of the snow, don’t forget those children with Winter birthday parties! Astro Jump is here to help bring the fun so that all kids get a moonbounce on their birthday 🙂
