Leaps & Bounds
Leaps and Bounds is Astro Jump of Metro DC’s newest large event and birthday inflatable. Once we get it delivered to us, which at this point depends entirely on the port strike in Los Angeles, I anticipate it being a hugely popular event rental. At the annual amusement trade show in Orlando in 2014 this item consistently had a sizeable crowd either watching it or taking their shoes off to test it. Ever seen something like this before? A “Yes” answer would not be surprising. The popular reality challenge show, “Wipeout,” has an activity as part of their obstacle courses very similar to the new Leaps & Bounds. In fact, I would bet a dollar that the manufacturers of this fun new inflatable got their idea from the show. Lets talk about how it works.
The name “Leaps & Bounds” comes by its name honestly. The inflatable rental has two ladders to enter the piece, one on each side so that you can choose which direction you want to leap and bound. Between the two sides are four huge red balls. Each ball is attached to the base of the inflatable by a connection point so much smaller than the ball itself that it is anything but steady. Surrounding each of these balls is the revolutionary zero shock technology landing pad where participants fall when they don’t make it across. The goal of the game is to make it across the four balls to the other side.
It’s name, “Leaps & Bounds” spells out the various methods for getting across. Trying to leap from ball to ball is doable for the first ball but subsequently much harder because your new launch point moves as you take the leap. Bounding across the balls gives one the best chance of getting across. Count to three and quickly try to bound across them without stopping, sort of like a rock skipping across water. If you make it you will be in control when you get to the end. If you lose your focus or balance worry not and let yourself fall softly onto the zero shock cushioning around the balls. Children and adults alike can use and enjoy Leaps & Bounds. At the IAAPA conference in Orlando where we purchased the piece the children were the best at getting across!
